The village, with a population of around 560 inhabitants, lies at an altitude of 1,300 m and covers an area of 87.87 km² (including the peak of Carlit and Bouillouses lake).

The Roman baths at Dorres are just 2 km away.

Angoustrine is a very quiet and well-maintained village, with stone houses built around the 12th-century Romanesque church of Saint-André d’Angoustrine. The former parish church was first mentioned in the 10th century in the deed of consecration and endowment of La Seu d’Urgell cathedral, and has been listed as a Historic Monument by the French Ministry of Culture.
